"The Chinese Expert Consensus on Vitrification of Human Oocytes and Embryos (2023)" is released!

Abstract

Vitrification of human oocytes and embryos is an important part of assisted reproductive technology. Initiated by the Reproductive Medicine Professional Committee of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, referring to the latest international guidelines and consensuses, and combined with the current situation of Chinese clinical practice, this consensus was formed after full discussion, aiming to strengthen the quality control of vitrification technology, further improve the vitrification outcome of oocytes and embryos, and enhance the quality of assisted reproductive services.

This article is published in the "Chinese Journal of Reproduction and Contraception" in September 2023, Volume 43, Issue 9.

Chinese expert consensus on vitrification cryopreservation of human oocytes and embryos (2023). Chinese Journal of Reproduction and Contraception, September 2023, Volume 43, Issue 9: 879-886.

This consensus offers comprehensive guidelines on vitrification cryopreservation, a key aspect of human assisted reproductive technology (ART). Vitrification, favored over traditional freezing for its simplicity, speed, and high recovery rates, is vital for fertility preservation, preimplantation genetic testing, and comprehensive freezing strategies. The outcome of vitrification depends on various factors, including cryoprotectant type, equilibration time, and cooling/heating rates. This summary covers personnel training, reagent selection, vitrification and thawing procedures, quality control, cryopreservation time limits, and storage management to enhance the service quality of reproductive medicine centers.
